DIY Hot Cocoa Bar & More: Our Winter Engagement Party

Being home for the holidays, I definitely wanted to celebrate our recent engagement with my hometown crew in Vegas! While it is nearly impossible to get all of my “homies” in one city at the same time over the holidays, I still managed to rally a lot of my favorite troops… and let’s just say we did some major damage with the DIY hot cocoa bar ūüėČ

While I’m not the biggest fan of winter, (the cold sucks and jackets ruin cute outfits), I still wanted to use the Christmas decor to my advantage. I set out to create a more sophisticated holiday ambiance, rather than the typical vibrant Christmas palette, so I stuck with silvers, golds, plaids, and carried a cute chalkboard theme throughout the rooms.

My favorite part was the DIY hot cocoa bar! Read below to see my steps to a winter party must-have.

Hot cocoa:¬†Trader Joe’s Sipping Chocolate. Want something boozy? We had Rumchata as an add-in and it was the perfect choice!

Chalkboard printable: Pinterest. Click, download for free, print, and frame it! Just as easy as it is cute.

Initial mugs: Pottery Barn

Red/ white mugs: Target

Yarn, wooden spoons, brown gift tags:¬†Hobby Lobby.¬†Doodle something fun on the tag- I opted for the cheesy “eat, drink, and be married”!

Chalkboard mason jars: Home Goods

Our guests had so much fun making their own cups of cocoa! My personal favorite was hot cocoa, Rumchata (duh), peppermint puffs, toffee, and some whipped cream. I also put out some yogurt covered pretzels, and peanut butter filled pretzels, as salty snacks pair well with the sweet cocoa.

For those who wanted something a bit more traditional, we set up a wine bar in our formal dining room, with a variety of reds and a white. We crafted a simple floral arrangement to pair with ornaments and our initial decor!

I think it is always important to add personal touches to any party! I had PirouettePaperShop customize an ornament for us. It made for an adorable, subtle display, and will make for the perfect Christmas keepsake to go on our tree in the years to come!

Last but not least, I had the best time because of the people who filled my home! Such a lucky gal to have a handsome fiancé who loves all my crazy friends!

Helpful tip:

Double dip. I had leftovers of just about everything for the DIY hot cocoa bar, so I re-used the whole setup for our small New Years Eve get-together!
